The Tyler Thompson Band delivers straight up rock and blues with sheer and brutal sincerity. The rhythm section — brothers Wade and Paul Thompson — supply solid grounding for Tyler’s melancholy vocals and incredible slide guitar work.

The band has gone international, being signed by the German-based Blue Buffalo Record company. They have an album, “Rock for the Soul,” and have a heavy performance schedule in Iowa and the Midwest (available on their web site).

The year 2006 marked an end to a pretty good decade for The Tyler Thompson Band. “I can still remember walking with Paul into the 30th Street Bar and seeing the Tyler Brothers getting after it,” recalls Wade Thompson. “After the show I jumped on stage to see if they might be interested in getting together with our rhythm section.” Mike Tyler adds, “I remember that. You stepped on my guitar pedal and I cussed you out.” Despite the clumsy introduction, a few days later that chance meeting in a Des Moines, Iowa club culminated into an all night jam session on Christmas Day, 1996. On December 26th, Wade Thompson, Paul Thompson, Mike Tyler and Jacob County Berhow were the Tyler Thompson Band. “We immediately began playing incessantly which helped develop our unique song structure formula based around Mike Tyler’s poetic lyrical style,” says Jacob.

The Tyler Thompson Band’s first album Fine Young Man caught the ear of Allman Brother’s band tour mystic Kirk West. With his help in 1998, TTB was fortunate enough to travel to Macon Georgia and recorded Living On the Border in the historic Capricorn Studios. The band was fortunate to have great musicians such as Chuck Leavell (Allman Brothers Band, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton), Leroy Parnell, Col. Bruce Hampton ret., and Mick Thomson of Slipknot lend their talents to the record.

Since then, TTB has honed their live show playing all over the U.S. and Europe sharing the stage with The Allman Brothers Band, Derek Trucks Band, Gov’t Mule, Little Feat, Robert Randolph and The Family Band, Phil Lesh and Friends, and many more.

After a two-year hiatus in 2005 and 2006, becoming frustrated with the major label smoke and mirrors games, the band approached local Des Moines indie label Authentic Records with their finished copy of Cold Cuts. I was really stoked when we got the call from Tyler Thompson,” Mike Butterworth co-owner of Authentic Records said. “We have been fans of the band for years and the record is amazing.” Authentic’s other founder, Jason Walsmith said, “The band came down to our SXSW showcase this year and floored a crowd of 800 people at two in the afternoon. We are very excited to be working with the band!”

Cold Cuts was recorded with Brian Vance at Vance Studios in Ankeny, Iowa. When asked how this album compares to their previous high dollar record, Paul Thompson says, “It is our finest work to date. We feel that we were able to capture the bands true vibe.” Wade adds, “We were most fortunate to be able to take our time with the recording process and comb over every nuance until it was just so.” “We are also very excited to be working with Authentic Records,” Mike Tyler said. “They are a family of real musicians who are out there doing it, and not just big talkers. Musicians helping musicians.”
