She Swings, She Sways has spent the last four weeks on the great American highway. Starting out in our hometown of Ottumwa, Iowa we have worked our way across the Midwest, the deep South, and we are currently holed up in a friends apartment which is located a quarter-mile from the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
And what exactly, have we been doing with ourselves? Why playing shows, of course. From packed bars in Memphis, to open-mic nights in Charlotte, SC. With a metal band in Houston, to all by ourselves for a four hour show in Athens, GA.
There have been a few highlights along the way – Wes broke two strings in one night; he swears he’s never broken a guitar string in his entire life. John has made it a goal to climb something in every state. Jason got pulled over by the local fuzz along the back roads …

Benjamin Wagner played the Rockwood Music Hall in New York City last week, providing us with this tasty little video of the track Boys of Summer, which is on his latest album The Invention Of Everything Else. Transitioning back into MTV News VP mode, Ben is taking a break from gigging until September. In the meantime, he’s headed to San Diego for ComicCon, to Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400 and then on to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions and the MTV Video Music Awards.

“I’m preparing for the Des Moines show this Saturday night, August 2nd, with The Envy Corps at the Simon Estes Riverfront Amphitheater. Very psyched to see and hear these guys – checked them out online and I’m honestly an instant fan. Extremely talented. Also, on Saturday morning around 9 a.m. I’ll be on WHO TV13 (Des Moines) to have a chat and play a tune. Let’s hope my sleepy voice has worked itself out of me. I’m gearing up to start touring more this fall and looking forward to releasing some new tunes for you all to hear as the months roll into the winter. I hope a new tune each month will keep folks satiated until any further full-length release. And thanks to Coca-Cola for having me on their jukebox for their mycokerewards.com promo.”

“I’m still chilling out after completing the tracking on my upcoming solo album. I’m at the beach with my family and my wife’s family. I just finished book #1… The Ruins. It was awesome and we’re going to watch the movie tonight, but i’m sure it’ll suck. Jason and I (Life in General) spoke yesterday about the Authentic Records release of our upcoming 21 track (!?) cd. We’re going over the contracts sent by the label. There appears to some clause about “ownership of 1st born children.” We’re not sure if FedEx or UPS is the best way to accomplish this.”

Hello, all… the summer is fairly tame and should continue to be so for a spell. Last year’s summer was full of recording and shows, so I’ve asked the powers that be to allow me a little down time over the next month or so to get my bearings, get back to writing, and to just generally live a brief sloth-like existence.
Folks have been receiving the latest record well and I’m anxious to venture into some new territory/venues this coming fall and to start rolling out what will hopefully be a new record in ’09. I’ve recently become obsessed with ‘70s Paul Simon stuff, baroque music, Imogen Heap, and the Arctic Monkeys (yes, I’m a little late), so who knows what is going to fall out of my head when it comes to writing and recording. Maybe manically orchestrated accessible acoustic pop that works best when driving really fast …
