Nadas set to perform at Maintenance Shop

Starting from humble beginnings, the five-piece band The Nadas set out to create a college band and were even awarded the title “The best college band you’ve never heard of” by Playboy Magazine in 2001.

Since 2001, they have moved past the college band title, and Jason Walsmith, lead vocals and guitar, said they have made the “long, slow and steady gradual transition” to a full-time band.

Steamboat Springs — When Mike Butterworth and Jason Walsmith, of the Iowa-based Americana rock band The Nadas, say they’re currently working on a record called the “Almanac” studio project, the timestamp isn’t an exaggeration.

“When we say currently working on it, I’m standing in front of a microphone where I’m supposed to be doing vocal takes,” Walsmith said by phone from the band’s studio, where The Nadas will lay down 12 tracks in 2009, one for each month.

Walsmith and Butterworth said they likely will play the songs already recorded for that project in a Thursday show at Ghost Ranch Saloon. Music starts at 9 p.m., and tickets are $8 in advance and $12 on the day of the show.

The Nadas started more than 15 years ago when Walsmith and Butterworth were in school. They shared …

On Saturday the 17th, legendary rockers The Guess Who (“American Woman,” “These Eyes” and other rock n roll anthems) take to the stage with Iowa favorites, “The Nadas,” originally from Ames, with hits like “Dancing Lucinda”.) Showtime is 6:30 p.m., tickets are $15.
The Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg is upping the ante on entertainment for northwest Iowa this season.
The fun begins with a free concert May 22 featuring the Iowa Rock N Roll Hall of Famers The Rumbles. Showtime is 7 p.m. Must be age 21 or over with a Wild Rose Player’s Club Card.

Next up is the Championship Bull Riding and Barrell Racing Rodeo by local promoters Barnes Rodeo PRCA. The date in May 24, showtime 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for age 12 and up, $5 for younger kids.
